The Foundation has recently decided to commission a longitudinal study of young women’s transitions in Tower Hamlets. The research will be undertaken over a five year period by Dr Charlotte Chadderton at the Cass School of Education & Communities at the University of East London.
Issues around CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) tend to receive little attention from the media and politicians. However, evidence shows that good guidance and employer contact help young people to make the right choices regarding education and employment, raise aspirations, motivation and achievement, and reduce the likelihood of them ending up NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).
A group of 16 pupils at Central Foundation Girls’ School; 8 current year 7s and 8 current year 8s will be tracked for the next five years, with the finding of the research being published and widely disseminated to all interested parties.
